This week is Inflammatory Bowel Disease Awareness Week

Dec. 1-7 is National Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week. The Crescent building on the campus of Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine is illuminated in purple, the color chosen to represent Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis (inflammatory bowel disease or IBD) awareness. There is said to be nearly 1.5 million Americans battling inflammatory bowel disease.

The Penn State Hershey Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center is the only multi-disciplinary program in the region for patients living with these diseases.

Led by Dr. Walter Koltun, Penn State Hershey Colon and Rectal Surgery, the team includes specialists in gastroenterology, colon and rectal surgery, radiology, rheumatology and dermatology and provides patients solutions for the complex issues associated with IBD.

Patient events are being scheduled for 2014. There is no cost to participate in these events, but registration is required. For more information, visit PennStateHershey.org/ibd or call 717-531-3998.
