Open Hour on child care at Penn State to be held Dec. 3 at University Park

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- An open hour for all University Park faculty, staff and students to discuss child care at Penn State will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Dec. 3 in the Lipcon Auditorium of the Palmer Museum of Art.

The session also is open to parents who have children who attend the Bennett Family Center or the Child Care Center at Hort Woods, but who may not be otherwise affiliated with Penn State.

Members of the Presidential Task Force on Child Care, formed in October and comprised of Penn State parents, faculty, staff and administrators, will be in attendance.

"Part of our charge from President Erickson is to assess the current status of child care options available to faculty, staff and students," said Jacqueline Edmondson, associate vice president and associate dean for Undergraduate Education, and task force chair. "The sessions are intended to help us with this assessment by giving attendees an opportunity to express their thoughts about child care at the University. We've held similar sessions at several campuses."

The task force expects to forward its recommendations on operations, policies, quality and affordability to President Erickson by the end of December.
