Schultz joins campus as student personal and career counselor

Brenda C. Schultz has been hired as the student personal and career counselor at Penn State Beaver, effective immediately. The position reports to the director of the Office of Student Affairs.

Since 2005, Schultz has served as a school counselor and social worker at the Parkway West Alternative Center for Education in Oakdale, where her duties included facilitation of intake and transition of at-risk students between high school and alternative education program settings. She also practiced conflict resolution and career, personal, grief, and crisis intervention and counseling. In addition, responsibilities included facilitating individual and group counseling experiences; coordinating academic and social services needs for at-risk students; and coordinating, administering, and interpreting standardized testing instruments, including the Keystone Exams, PSSA, Terra Nova, and Career Assessment Inventory.

Schultz also worked as a secondary school counselor intern for West Allegheny School District for a year and was a career counselor and government contracts funding specialist for Goodwill Industries of Southwestern Pennsylvania for seven years. She is certified as an educational specialist II: secondary school counselor 7-12, and holds a school counseling endorsement from Slippery Rock University. Schultz earned a master’s degree in counseling from Regent University, Virginia Beach, and holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Schultz is a member of the American School Counselor Association, the Pennsylvania School Counselor Association, and the Allegheny County Counselor Association.
