Police urge securing valuables before leaving offices for holiday breaks

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Police are urging faculty and staff to secure money and valuables before leaving offices during upcoming holiday breaks.

In recent years, police have seen offices with cash and easily accessible and portable electronic devices being targeted by thieves and burglars when classes are not in session.

Police advise that materials be secured in areas protected by alarms and that easily transported personal items be taken home. Staff also should ensure that alarm and camera systems are functioning properly and that the systems are armed. If possible, police advise having local staff periodically check on offices during Thanksgiving and winter holiday breaks.

University Police are available 24 hours a day at 814-863-1111.
