Global Entrepreneurship Week returns to Penn State this November

Global Entrepreneurship Week will connect students at Penn State to six continents and more than 130 countries from Nov. 17 to 22. Millions of participants plan to explore their entrepreneurial potential that week all across the globe. And E-ship experts from the Penn State Small Business Development Center, Penn State faculty, local entrepreneurship-based groups as well as respected speakers from across the east coast will share their knowledge with students at the University Park campus during the dozens of scheduled events.

The Global Entrepreneurship Week initiative is the world’s largest celebration of job creators and innovators who launch business start-ups. The platform is meant to draw awareness to individual potential as entrepreneurs, evoke forward-thinking and ignite connection between participants and local businesses.

Based on a combination of the number of events and attendance, Penn State’s response to Global Entrepreneurship Week ranked fourth in the nation in 2012, and this year, more than 40 events are scheduled all around the University Park campus and in State College.

Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to speakers, participate in networking events and attend interactive workshops. From learning how to create a mobile app and developing strategic social media to global entrepreneurship in the craft beer industry to presentations for entrepreneurship-minded international students, the week will contain events for all audiences. Participants will receive Global Entrepreneurship Week passports and a sticker for each event they attend along with the chance to enter multiple gift card drawings.

Coinciding with the initiative to connect, all events are open to both students and the public. Community events include a daily tours (12 to 1 p.m.) of the proposed New Leaf Initiative, to be housed on the third floor of the State College Municipal Building. The New Leaf Initiative works to bring innovators and entrepreneurs together in a neutral environment on a daily basis.

On Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 11 a.m. to noon, members of the Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County will host “Trends of Town and Gown Entrepreneurship” at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel in Innovation Park. There, a panel of Penn State student entrepreneurs and local entrepreneurs will discuss partnerships and trends as they foster a strong, local entrepreneurial community.
