Domestic violence vigil Oct. 23 will honor victims, survivors and loved ones

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- On Wednesday, Oct. 23, The Center for Ethics and Religious Affairs, Penn State’s Family Law Clinic and The Center for Women Students are sponsoring a Domestic Violence Day of Remembrance at The Pasquerilla Spiritual Center.

Hours for personal reflection are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All are welcome to visit The Spiritual Center during this time to honor a loved one by devoting a moment of silence, prayers, meditations and/or lighting a candle. People may contribute pictures, poetry and other small relics of remembrance for those who have been impacted by domestic or sexual violence.

The inspiration for this vigil emerged with the recent murder of Penn State Family Law Clinic client Traci Raymond Miscavish, who was shot and killed by her estranged husband days after he received divorce papers in the mail. In conjunction with the month of October, observed as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, this vigil honors victims of domestic and sexual violence like Traci and those who support them, and aims to raise awareness of the prevalence of these crimes in our communities.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact 814-865-6548 or spiritual@psu.edu.
