Faculty, students among chefs supporting fundraising event

Students and faculty from Pennsylvania College of Technology’s baking, pastry and culinary arts majors recently lent their skills to a dinner that raised funds for the Centre County Child Access Center in Bellefonte.

Six students joined chef Paul Mach, assistant professor of hospitality management/culinary arts, and chef Charles R. Niedermyer II, instructor of baking and pastry arts/culinary arts, at the Mountain View Country Club in Boalsburg for State College magazine’s annual Chefs on Stage.

The dinner featured more than 20 local chefs who each prepared a dish for the nearly 300 attendees. The Penn College contingent provided two desserts: Le Jeune Chef Restaurant’s signature chocolate soup and made-to-order sabayon with fresh berries. Le Jeune Chef, Penn College’s fine-dining restaurant, is open to the public and serves as a learning laboratory for students in hospitality management, baking and pastry arts, and culinary arts majors.

This year’s Chefs on Stage beneficiary, the Centre County Child Access Center, affords a safe place for custody exchanges, providing trained staff and volunteers to ensure zero interaction between spouses and a friendly environment for children. The program is an extension of the Centre County Women’s Resource Center.

Penn College students helping with the event, along with their hometowns and majors, are Lisa R. Aunkst, of Watsontown, culinary arts technology; Amber S. English, of Lewistown, hospitality management; Katlyn J. Hackling, of Lake Hiawatha, N.J., baking and pastry arts; Victoria L. Kostecki, of Center Valley, baking and pastry arts; Alyssa J. Morales, of Reading, culinary arts and systems; and Theodore J. Persing, of South Williamsport, baking and pastry arts.
