Oct. 9 seminar with Rex Energy to look at volatility of oil, natural gas rates

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State EMS Energy Institute and Rex Energy will host a seminar Oct. 9 titled "The Implications of Oil and Natural Gas Commodity Price Volatility for Producers in the Energy Industry" from 10 to 11 a.m. in C213 Coal Utilization Laboratory.

Oil and natural gas prices have been historically volatile and difficult to predict. Understanding past changes in these commodities can be helpful in forecasting potential future prices. Mitigating commodity price exposure through risk management activities is critical for energy producers in developing corporate strategies and allocating capital efficiently. Oil and natural gas price volatility can provide embedded value to producers in the energy industry if it is harnessed properly.

Michael Hodges, Rex Energy chief financial officer, and Mark Aydin, Rex Energy investor relations manager, will present a seminar addressing these as part of the Energy Exchange Seminar Series. After the seminar, we will hold a student lunch with the speakers. To attend the luncheon, students can email szw101@psu.edu.

Energy Exchange is a Seminar Series co-sponsored by the EMS Energy Institute, and the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment. More information is available at www.energy.psu.edu.
