Penn College open house Oct. 27 to showcase hands-on careers

An open house on Sunday, Oct. 27, will enable prospective students and families to explore the diverse “degrees that work” that are the hallmark of a Pennsylvania College of Technology education.

A wide range of activities and tours will be offered at Open House, which takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the main campus in Williamsport. Free transportation is provided to and from the college’s Schneebeli Earth Science Center and Lumley Aviation Center nearby.

“Penn College’s fall open house is where you find out what we are all about,” said Dennis L. Correll, associate dean for admissions and financial aid. “State-of-the-art labs, classrooms, dining facilities and residence halls distinguish Penn College as the place to earn a degree and to stand apart from other graduates.”

In Best Colleges 2014, Penn College earned Top 10 status among the Top Public Regional Colleges North from the annual publication issued by U.S. News & World Report.

“This shows Penn College is able to assist employers nationwide who are facing a projected shortage of 600,000 educated and skilled employees in the coming years,” Correll said. “Companies large and small look to Penn College to assist them in filling such positions.”

Penn College students learn alongside industry-experienced faculty, using the latest equipment and technologies. Experiences with faculty help connect students to Fortune 500 companies across the country upon graduation.

“Once you visit Penn College, you will know this is the right place to start your future career,” Correll said.

Open house visitors may participate in a variety of activities at the college, a special mission affiliate of Penn State and a national leader in applied technology education.

The activities include:
-- Meeting with faculty to learn about academic majors representing more than 100 different career areas
-- Attending a Choosing Your Major session to find out which career areas match your interests and abilities
-- Visiting labs and classrooms to see how state-of-the-art facilities and equipment can enhance your educational experience
-- Exploring campus with a Student Ambassador to hear a student’s perspective on Penn College
-- Touring on-campus housing to hear from students about what it’s like to live on campus
-- Interacting with students and learning more about clubs and organizations, athletics, dining services and campus life

Those applying for admission during the open house will have the $50 application fee waived.
