October faculty research seminar at Penn State Schuylkill

W. Keith Duffy, associate professor of English, will present the second session of the Penn State Schuylkill faculty research seminar series on Wednesday, Oct. 16. His session on “I’m Not a Musician, But I Play One on TV:  Electronic Music and the Writing Classroom,” will begin at noon in the Health and Wellness Building, room 201 at Penn State Schuylkill. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served.

During this session, the audience will hear the "rhetoricity of sound" as he demonstrates the technology and pedagogy used to explore the intersections of composing with words and with sound. In addition to academic articles on this topic, Duffy has published several CDs of his music. Some tracks have been licensed for television, HBO’s "The Sopranos" and film, "The Oh in Ohio." Free CD samples will be available.

Future sessions include:

Nov. 13 -- “Bisexuals and the Sex Differences in Jealousy Hypothesis,” Cory Scherer, assistant professor of psychology, Penn State Schuylkill

Dec. 4 -- “All in Our Family, and Sometimes Our Church:  Religiosity, Identities, and Social Change Among LGBT Mormons and Their Parents,” Lauren J. Joseph, assistant professor of sociology, Penn State Schuylkill
