State College residents are invited to participate in the fourth annual State College Solar Tour, sponsored by Penn State’s American Solar Energy Society’s (ASES) student chapter.

The State College guided tour will showcase several energy-efficient homes and businesses that are bringing their owners ample economic and environmental rewards. The tour will run from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 6, beginning at the MorningSTAR solar home on Penn State's University Park campus. Each stop on the tour will come with a unique story and direct perspectives of businesses, homeowners and installers about costs, energy savings, processes and benefits of going solar, including solar hot water and photovoltaic (PV).

"This year we will visit many new locations to keep the tour fresh and exciting," said Kelsey Yates, vice president of Penn State's ASES student chapter. "We're excited to showcase how solar energy is being used efficiently in our community."

Find the tour schedule highlighting the money-saving, energy-efficient features of these State College area homes online at the local ASES event website. The tour is free and will have Twitter updates to make it easy to meet up with the group throughout the day. Follow @PSU_ASES and #statecollegesolartour for real-time location updates.

The State College guided tour is part of the nonprofit ASES’ 18th annual National Solar Tour, the world’s largest grassroots solar event. Last year, 90,000 people across the United States participated in 578 registered Solar Tours.
