Weight of the Nation community screening and panel discussion

Penn State Hershey PRO Wellness Center, in partnership with Milton Hershey School will hold a free community screening of the HBO production, “The Weight of the Nation,” an exclusive multi-part series addressing the national obesity epidemic at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Milton Hershey School, Founder’s Hall.

The series is comprised of four documentary films that feature case studies and interviews with leading experts and with families and individuals who struggle with obesity.

This particular screening will include a film within the kid’s series, called “Quiz Ed!” which tests the nutrition and physical activity knowledge of students of varying ages and activity levels to inspire them to take action. It reveals that there are steps kids can take toward a healthier lifestyle, for instance, choosing foods with less sugar, as well as not skipping meals. The special also spotlights kids' concerns about their level of physical activity.

Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion addressing how community leaders and families in the Commonwealth can help diminish this national problem on a local level. In addition to representatives and youth from Milton Hershey School, the panel will include the following individuals:

Judy Dillon, coordinator, Community Outreach, Department of Nursing

Kari Kugler, research associate, Methodology Center, Penn State
