Pre-tenure symposium planned for Oct. 25

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- An annual pre-tenure symposium titled “Equity and Inclusion: Successfully Navigating the Promotion and Tenure Process” will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in the Paterno Library.

The event is sponsored by the University President’s equity commissions and hosted by the University Libraries. Lunch will be provided.  Registration is free for members of the Penn State community. To register, visit https://equity-pt.eventbrite.com/ by Friday, Oct. 18.

Plenary sessions and breakout discussion groups will address issues important to early tenure-line faculty from under-represented groups, including women. Nick Jones, executive vice president and provost, will deliver the plenary address. Blannie Bowen, vice provost for Academic Affairs, will speak on “Strategies for Moving Forward.”

Panel  and concurrent sessions include:-- Funding and publishing your research-- Publishing about diversity issues-- Work-life balance-- Getting smart about service-- Nuts and bolts of the tenure process-- Teaching/classroom strategies
