Dance for Parkinson’s classes offered at Penn State Hershey

The internationally acclaimed program Dance for Parkinson’s will now be available at the University Fitness Center on the campus of Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, thanks to a new collaboration with teaching artists from the nonprofit Lancaster-based Contemporary Ballet of PA (COBALT). Penn State Hershey’s Center Stage will provide the music.

The classes will be offered from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Fridays from Sept. 20 through Nov. 8. The cost for the series of classes is $75 if paid in advance; $80 the day of the first class. Companions of participants with Parkinson’s may attend for free. Online Registration is available.

The classes empower people with Parkinson’s disease to explore movement in ways that are stimulating and creative by focusing on key principles related to dance from instilling confidence to breaking isolation, stimulating mental activity, to increasing spatial awareness. Participants are welcome to try out the first class without committing to being registered. Once registered, the fee is $80 for the eight-week session. Registration will be complete when a referral-clearance from the patient’s physician is received.
