Lehigh Valley campus to offer S.A.F.E Training for students, faculty and staff

Self-Defense Awareness and Familiarization Exchange is a crime-victim prevention program

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Penn State Lehigh Valley will offer the S.A.F.E. Training Program (Self-Defense Awareness and Familiarization Exchange) to students, faculty and staff from 12:15-1:30 p.m. on Sept. 17 and 1-2 p.m. on Sept. 18, in room 135 at the campus in Center Valley. This free program is sponsored by Student Affairs and will be presented by the campus' Safety and Security team. The sign-up sheet for the training is located in the Fitness Center.

S.A.F.E is a two-hour educational awareness, crime-victim prevention program – encompassing strategies, techniques, options, and prevention – that provides information that may reduce the risk of exposure to violence and introduces the physical aspects of self-defense. The program was created in 2000 by the National Self-Defense Institute, Inc. (NSDI), a Florida-based not-for-profit corporation that has created and manages public safety awareness programs.

For the convenience of the campus community, the two-hour program will be presented in two installments during the common hour on Sept. 17 and 18 in room 135.
