Elliott Strickland, chief student affairs officer at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was selected to participate in a Certificate Program in Student Affairs Law and Policy sponsored by NASPA-Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education.The program, which provides demanding and intensive instruction, as well as informal collaborative learning, was limited to 20 students nationwide and was offered in St. Pete Beach, Fla. Attending the program were senior-level student affairs leaders from across the nation.In July 2010, NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators) and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) jointly endorsed Professional Competency Areas for Student Affairs Practitioners, which includes a defined and articulated competency area for law, policy and governance (LPG).NASPA’s Certificate Program in Student Affairs Law and Policy provides an intensive, 23-instruction-hour residential experience specifically designed to develop and enhance skills, attitudes and knowledge related to the articulated competencies endorsed by ACPA and NASPA in the LPG area of competency. It is the only program of its type and the only certificate program specifically recommended for members of NASPA and the Association for Student Conduct Administration.
