Parking office makes event-weekend policy consistent

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The University Parking Office has announced changes for overnight parking by Penn State Commonwealth Campus students visiting University Park on event weekends.

Starting the Thursday evening (Sept. 5) of the first home football game weekend, the University Parking Office will begin charging visiting Commonwealth Campus student permitted vehicles the same respective overnight parking event fee for football and large event weekends that is charged to University Park commuter students. Those fees are $25 or $20 respectively, depending if they are arriving on campus Thursday or Friday evening.

If students with a valid Commonwealth Campus student parking permit show up on the day of the event to park in an area controlled by the University Parking Office, they will be allowed free access for on-campus events, just like anyone holding a valid Penn State parking permit.

A review of event parking procedures for football and other large event weekends such as Arts Fest revealed that vehicles with a valid Commonwealth Campus student parking permit have been allowed to park in the parking decks and Red A lot overnight at no charge on these designated weekends, a privilege not afforded to vehicles with a valid University Park student commuter parking permit. The change now makes the policy consistent.
