Nittany Lion fans reminded of new bag policies in effect for 2013

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State football fans are reminded of new safety measures in effect this year as the Nittany Lions kick off the season Aug. 31 against Syracuse at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

In the spring, the University instituted a policy prohibiting backpacks, bags and purses from all athletic events at venues such as Beaver Stadium, the Bryce Jordan Center and Rec Hall.

To provide a safer environment for the public, MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Giants and New York Jets, has implemented the NFL policy for the Aug. 31 contest limiting the size and type of bags permitted inside the stadium.

Fans will be able to carry the following style and size bag, package or container at stadium plaza areas, stadium gates or when approaching queue lines of fans awaiting entry into the stadium:

-- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches, or

-- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar).

-- Small clutch bags (wristlet), approximately the size of a hand (4.5 inches by 6.5 inches), with or without a handle or strap, may be carried into the stadium along with one of the clear bag options.

Penn State's policy limits the size of bags to no larger than 4 inches by 6 inches by 1-inch at all home athletic events this year. One clear, 1-gallon plastic bag per person will be permitted at Penn State home athletic events and all items are subject to inspection.

Fans should refer to the complete list of prohibited items and parking/tailgating rules in the 2013 Beaver Stadium Information Guide.
