Welcome Week kicks off the fall semester at Penn State Altoona

Welcome Week at Penn State Altoona began Aug. 22 as 750 of the more than 1,400 first-year students moved onto the campus. Faculty, staff, orientation leaders and other student organization volunteers helped unload cars and get students settled into their rooms. From there, it was non-stop as students acclimated themselves to Penn State Altoona.

Between Lion Chats, student services panels, academic meetings and straight talk with faculty, students participated in convocation, ice cream socials, the Friends for Life event and class photo, tie-dying and a glow dance party.  365 took part in Voluntoona Saturday morning, a community-service effort. Students helped out at organizations such as the Humane Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Altoona Public Works, Easter Seals and Epworth Manor.

Each event and activity was a great opportunity for students to make a connection to the campus, meet others and start their semester off on a positive note.
