Parking changes made to accommodate returning students

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The arrival of Penn State students for the fall semester will bring multiple changes in the coming days to traffic and parking arrangements on campus and in State College.

Students begin classes Aug. 26. For more on the first week of classes, go to http://www.welcomeweek.psu.edu.

The University Parking Office is making adjustments to ensure that parking is available near campus residence halls. Core student parking areas are being regulated for unloading only, and all vehicles must be removed from Lot 22 (Eastview Terrace), Lot 81 (South/Pollock Halls) and Lot 82 (East Halls) by 5 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20. Student permit holders must move their vehicles to one of the commuter parking areas during the move-in period. Students with permits for Lot 82 can move back to their assigned area at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24. Students with permits for Lot 22 Eastview Terrace, Lot 42 Nittany Apartments or Lot 81 South and Pollock Halls can move back to their assigned area at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. Yellow J (Atherton Hall) and Lot Yellow T are reserved for unloading only from Aug. 21 to 25. Yellow J and Yellow T permit holders must park in the Eisenhower Parking Deck from Aug. 21 to 25.

East Deck:

In the East Deck (Yellow D), the bottom floor will be reserved for the unloading of student/parent vehicles from Wednesday. Aug. 21, to Saturday, Aug. 24. All vehicles, including faculty and staff, contractor and department/physical plant vehicles are required to park on the upper levels and away from the affected areas.

Lot Orange B (Softball) will be reserved for unloading only from Wednesday, Aug. 21, to Saturday, Aug. 24. All vehicles, including faculty and staff, contractor and department/physical plant vehicles must be removed from Lot Orange B by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20. Permit holders who normally use Orange B are asked to park in the East Deck or one of the commuter parking areas.

Green D (Stuckeman Building) and Green G (North Halls):

The northeast section and the entire north row of lot Green D, and all three sections of Lot Green G (including Park Avenue) will be reserved for the unloading of student/parent vehicles only on Wednesday, Aug. 21, to Sunday, Aug. 25. Green G and Green D permit holders are asked to park in YD (East Deck) from Aug. 21 to 25.

Brown E, and Green C:

HUB Deck (Yellow C):

From Wednesday, Aug. 21, and Sunday, Aug. 25, the first bay on the ground floor (transponder only entrance) will be reserved for unloading only. Vehicles entering to unload will enter and exit through the transponder entrance. Due to the heavy traffic expected at the HUB Deck, Yellow C permit holders are asked to use the Eisenhower Deck from Aug. 21 to 25. Staff permit holders from other areas of campus that commonly visit the HUB or surrounding buildings during the day, are asked to remain parked in your assigned areas.

Yellow T (Redifer, and Pollock Commons) will be reserved for unloading only from Wednesday, Aug. 21, to Sunday, Aug. 25.

Yellow T permit holders need to park in the Eisenhower Parking Deck from Aug. 21 to 25.

After unloading, parents and students will be directed to move their vehicles to Lot 44 or Stadium West. The only exception will be those unloading at West Halls. Individuals moving into residence halls also may park in the Nittany Deck or Lot Red A. The unloading voucher issued at the residence halls will be accepted to validate parking at these two locations.

Also the State College Police Department designated Aug. 23 and 24 as Penn State Student Return Days. One eastbound travel lane on the 600 block of East College Avenue will be closed each day between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to allow returning students to use the lane to unload vehicles.

Some minor traffic delays are expected on East College Avenue between South Garner Street and University Drive due to the influx of vehicles entering State College and the campus.
