Nursing's Fick appointed visiting scientist at Institute for Aging Research

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Donna Fick, distinguished professor of nursing, has been appointed a visiting scientist at the Institute for Aging Research at Hebrew SeniorLife in Boston, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, as part of her sabbatical during the 2013-14 academic year.

Fick was invited to join the working group of the institute’s Aging Brain Center, where she will collaborate with investigators on new and existing projects.

“It is a privilege to have Donna working with our group this year,” said Sharon Inouye, director of the Aging Brain Center and professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, who is serving as Fick’s mentor during her appointment. “We look forward to many wonderful collaborations.”

Fick is co-director of the John A. Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence at Penn State. Her program of research focuses on improving detection and management of delirium superimposed on dementia in older adults and inappropriate medication use in that population. She also serves as editor of the Journal of Gerontological Nursing. In 2012, Fick co-chaired the update of the American Geriatrics Society’s Beers Criteria for medications to avoid in older adults.
