Building for Tomorrow begins Aug. 14 for first-year students

The Building for Tomorrow program, part of Penn State Berks' Outdoor Adventure Program that helps first-year students transition to college life, begins on Wednesday, Aug. 14, and will run through Saturday, Aug. 17.In this program, students learn civic responsibility, rehabilitating the surrounding community and broadening cultural horizons through community service.-- From 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, students will volunteer at Berks Encore; from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., they will prepare a lunch at Opportunity House. To conclude the day, they will work on maintaining the trails at Gring’s Mill Recreation Area from 1 to 5 p.m.-- From 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, they will volunteer at Co-County Wellness Services. From 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., they will work on a beautification project in the City of Reading, at a location to be determined. -- On the final day from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, the group will work in the Friends Room of The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
