Hughes named Big Ten Men's Golfer of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Penn State senior JD Hughes was named the Big Ten Conference Men's Golfer of the Week after tying for fourth place at the Linger Longer Invitational last weekend. The Carlisle, Pennsylvania, product recorded a career-low 65 in the second round of the tournament which helped the Nittany Lions move up three spots on the team leaderboard.

"JD has had an outstanding control of his entire game in his last two events," said Penn State men's golf coach Greg Nye. He has worked hard on all aspects of his game, but the most noticeable is his patience with all that happens in a round, and staying in the shot at hand."

Hughes birdied six of his first nine holes and had nine total birdies on the second day of competition as his 65 tied two other competitors for the low round for the 2019 event. His 209 total marked his second-best three-round score in his Penn State career.
