College names dean of Academic Services and First Year Programs

Paul R. Watson II has been appointed dean of Academic Services and First Year Programs at Pennsylvania College of Technology.Previously, Watson served as assistant dean of programs in the School of Sciences, Humanities & Visual Communications at the college. He has also served as director of mathematics and general education.Watson began his new duties July 22. As dean of academic services and first year programs, he is responsible for coordinating first year programs and support activities, as well as assisting with the implementation and assessment of other recommendations made in conjunction with the Foundations of Excellence initiative at the college.“We are very pleased to have Paul Watson in his new role,” said Paul L. Starkey, vice president for academic affairs/provost. “He has established a great reputation at the college for his enthusiasm and work ethic. He brings creativity and expertise to Academic Services and First Year Programs, an area that is critically important to students and to the college itself.”"We are excited about the knowledge, skill set and ideas that Paul Watson has to contribute to the Academic Services and First Year Programs area,” added Carolyn R. Strickland, assistant vice president for academic services. “We welcome him into this important leadership role on campus.”Before joining the staff at Penn College, Watson coordinated mathematics instruction and curriculum at Jefferson Central School in Jefferson, N.Y. He has taught mathematics full time at Houghton College and part time at Genesee Community College, SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Oneonta.Watson holds a master’s degree in education and curriculum from the University of Rochester and a master’s in mathematics instruction from Syracuse University.
