Murphy wins international poetry prize

Erin Murphy, associate professor of English at Penn State Altoona, has been named winner of the 2013 Fermoy International Poetry Festival competition. She will fly to County Cork, Ireland, to read her work at the festival Aug. 1-5.

Murphy’s poem “Mother of Invention” was selected by judge Noel King. Voiced by the mother of Nikola Tesla, inventor of the AC electrical supply system, the poem will be published in the Irish literary journal The Blue Max Review.
