Penn State Brandywine welcomes new soccer coach Scott Spangler

Penn State Brandywine announced the appointment of Scott Spangler as the head coach of its intercollegiate men’s soccer team.

Spangler started his soccer career as a player. He graduated from Strath Haven High School, where he was team captain and earned Delco Player of the Year honors in two consecutive years. He was named to the High School All-American team in 2001 and attended Virginia Tech on a soccer scholarship, where he served as a captain on the team that appeared in the NCAA Final Four Championship.

Spangler has leveraged his success on the playing field to build his career as a coach and mentor. In 2009, he founded Future Captains Sports, an organization that works with soccer players and teams throughout the region to help them develop the skills and knowledge necessary to compete at the highest levels. He coached youth and high school soccer, trained players in the youth Olympic Development Program and has developed programs to use soccer as a vehicle to reach underprivileged youth. Scott and his wife live in Wallingford.

The Penn State Brandywine soccer team plays in the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) and is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. The team plays local and regional PSUAC and NCAA Division III opponents.
