UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Smeal College of Business was recognized with an honorable mention in the AMX 2013 Innovation Awards, announced recently at UBTech, a conference dedicated to technology and leadership in higher education.
Gary Field and John Ilie of Smeal's Research, Instruction and Information Technology Group implemented an automation and control solution for its large lecture theater classroom, the Struthers Auditorium, which is used for multiple instructional and other event formats and also facilitates remote participation. The implementation allows instructors and guest lecturers as well as technicians in the control room to control lecture capture, video conferencing equipment and other electronics.
“The technology drives the demand for the space,” said Field, research systems manager. “The distance learning features of the room, lecture capture and video conferencing, reduce attendance costs in terms of lodging and travel for remote participants.”
AMX, a company focused on hardware and software solutions that manage innovative technologies, sponsors the awards to recognize universities that have implemented their technologies in innovative ways. Each of the winners will receive $25,000 worth of AMX equipment.
UBTech 2013 was held in Orlando, Fla., from June 10-12.
