Four men's golfers named to Division I PING All-Northeast Regional Team

UNIVERSITY PARK Pa. -- Four Penn State men's golfers were selected to the Division I PING All-Northeast Regional Team, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The honorees included senior Anthony DeGol (Hollidaysburg, Pa.); sophomores Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) and Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.); and freshman Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.). 155 players across six regions - Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Central, and West - were awarded all-region honors for 2013.

DeGol continued to lead the Nittany Lions in his final season with Penn State. He competed in 27 rounds during the fall 2012 and spring 2013 seasons, averaging a 75 on the year with a low round of 69.

McDonald-Smith started in seven tournaments this year, including all five spring competitions. His best finish was on his home turf at the Rutherford Intercollegiate, where he placed third overall. Talbert began making an impact for Penn State during his rookie season, yet continued to do so as a sophomore by earning a top-20 finish in five different tournaments.

Houston had a breakout performance at the Colleton River Collegiate, where he finished tied-for-first individually, shooting a 228 (80-77-71). Houston averaged a 75.85 throughout 20 rounds of play in seven different tournaments.
