'Penn State Football: The Next Chapter' a finalist for award

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Public Broadcasting (PSPB) production team responsible for "Penn State Football: The Next Chapter," which offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at one of the nation's premier football programs, has been nominated for a 2012 College Sports Media Award.

The Sports Video Group and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) made the announcement of the award finalists. The show is one of five nominated in the Best Program Series category, College Athletics Division.

The winners will be announced Wednesday, May 29, at the College Sports Video Summit in Atlanta.

“We are extremely proud of the CMSA nomination in our first year partnership with Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics to produce 'Penn State Football: The Next Chapter,'” said Bill Amin, coordinating producer. “Head coach Bill O'Brien continues to demonstrate the importance of the One Team philosophy. We were very pleased to share the One Team vision with viewers, fans and supporters of Penn State and Nittany Lion Football each week.” 

“The team at Penn State Public Broadcasting knows that it requires remarkable effort to tell remarkable stories well,” stated Penn State Associate Athletic Director Greg Myford. “They demonstrated that this past year with each episode of ‘The Next Chapter.’ And now that we have a full season under our belt working together, our fans can look forward to the show climbing to the next level this fall.”

During the 2012 season, the show took viewers on a journey by providing pre-game and post-game highlights, player interviews, features and conversations with O’Brien, as well as the coaching and football support staff. The national and Big Ten Coach of the Year, O’Brien and his staff led the Nittany Lions to wins in eight of their final 10 games.

The PSPB production team produced 12 episodes that aired on TV stations and regional sports networks from North Carolina, to eastern Ohio to Maine, including CSN Philadelphia, ROOT Sports, NESN and MASN.

Topher Yorks is the producer of "Penn State Football: The Next Chapter." Don Hampton (director), DaVita Miles (associate producer), Shadé Olasimbo (associate producer) and Matt Stephens (videographer) join Amin in comprising the primary production team for the program.

"Penn State Football: The Next Chapter" is a partnership between PSPB and Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics, who also partner on the Penn State basketball programs, "In The Paint" and "Courtside With Coquese," which was a 2012 CSMA finalist.
