Multicultural Resource Center honors those striving for diversity at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) held its 22nd annual Senior Student and Faculty/Staff Diversity Recognition Awards in Robb Hall on April 10, at the Hintz Alumni Center. Co-sponsored by the Penn State Alumni Association, this annual recognition reception honors graduating seniors at University Park who have shown leadership, academic excellence, volunteerism, inspiration and resilience in the face of odds as well as faculty/staff who consistently promote multiculturalism and demonstrate concern for and sensitivity to the needs of multicultural students. The 2013 recipients are listed below.

Student Award Recipients:Resilient Student Award: Carla Massena, biological sciences, Eberly College of Science

Leadership Award: Jasmin Enriquez, communication arts and sciences, the College of the Liberal Arts

Volunteer Service Award: Faith Pettyjohn, psychology, the College of the Liberal Arts

Academic Scholarship Award: Tramond Baisden, geosciences, the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences

Inspiring Student Leader Award: Dulce-Marie Flecha, English, the College of the Liberal Arts

Student Speaker: Helen Xu, psychology, the College of the Liberal Arts

Student Organization Award: Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority

Faculty/Staff Diversity Recognition Award Recipients:
Keisha Johnson, assistant director, Eberly College of Science Diversity Initiatives Office, University Park

Olivia Lewis, administrative support coordinator, the College of Information Sciences and Technology, University Park

John Romano Faculty/Staff Diversity Recognition Award Recipient:
Greglynn Gibbs, research support technician III, Chemistry Department, Penn State Berks
