Dr. Mark Widome of Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital has been named Pediatrician of the Year by the Pennsylvania chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Widome received his award at the Children’s Health Advocacy Dinner, which took place April 22 at the Hotel Hershey. Widome joined the faculty at Penn State Hershey in 1977 and has served as chief of the Division of General Pediatrics since 2004.

Nearly 100 physicians and other guests were in attendance at the dinner, which was presented by the Children’s Hospital. Also honored was Dr. George McCormick of Mount Nittany Physician Group, who received the Children’s Health Advocacy Award from Penn State Hershey.

The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Avril Beckford who delivered a talk titled “The Timeless Prescription That All Children Need.” Beckford, who is currently the chief pediatrics officer at Wellstar Health System in Marietta, Ga., served as the first chief pediatrics resident at Penn State Hershey back in 1988.
