Penn State fans can order tickets May 3 for season opener at MetLife Stadium

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Nittany Lion Club members planning to kick off Penn State's 2013 season on Aug. 31 vs. Syracuse at MetLife Stadium in suburban New York can order tickets through the athletic ticket office beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, May 3.

Several different seating locations and price levels will be available, and fans who purchase their tickets via Penn State's online offering will be seated with other Nittany Lion fans buying tickets for the Labor Day weekend season opener.

Coach Bill O'Brien's Nittany Lions will be playing in MetLife Stadium, site of Super Bowl XLVIII, for the first time and competing at The Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J. for the first time since 2000.

Nittany Lion Club members and football season ticket holders will be assigned a date they can order tickets for the Syracuse game based on NLC point totals. Tickets can be purchased online via their Account Manager or by calling 1-800-NITTANY (648-8269) from 10-a.m.-5 p.m., starting on May 3. Nittany Lion Club members will have the opportunity to purchase a maximum of 10 tickets based on priority points. Tickets for the Penn State-Syracuse game range from $75 to $175.

Regular 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. weekday hours for 1-800-NITTANY resume May 6 for Nittany Lion Club members and football season ticket holders to place their orders for the Syracuse game.

The general public can order tickets from Penn State starting Monday, June 17 at 10 a.m. by calling 1-800-NITTANY. Phone orders can be placed weekdays from 8:00 a.m-5:00 p.m.

The Nittany Lions and Orange have met 70 times previously, the second-highest total for a Penn State opponent. Penn State owns a 42-23-5 on-field series advantage, winning the most recent contests during the 2008 and '09 seasons. The teams met every season from 1944-90, but did not meet again until the 2008 contest in the Carrier Dome.

Penn State will be playing at the Meadowlands for the first time in 13 years, when it faced USC in the 2000 Kickoff Classic at Giants Stadium. The Nittany Lions and Orange met once at Giants Stadium, with the Penn State posting a 35-7 win on October 20, 1979. The Nittany Lions were 10-3 overall at Giants Stadium.

The Nittany Lions will be opening the season at the Meadowlands for the sixth time, having beaten Rutgers (1977), Georgia Tech (1991) and USC (1996) and losing to Nebraska (1983) and USC (2000). The last four contests were in the Kickoff Classic.

Penn State returns 16 starters and 38 letterwinners for the 2013 season. O'Brien earned national and Big Ten Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Nittany Lions to wins in eight of their final 10 games last year, earning an 8-4 overall record (6-2 Big Ten).

Season tickets are available for the 2013 campaign. The Nittany Lions will host five bowl teams from 2012, including three teams that finished in the BCS Top 25: Michigan (Oct. 12-Homecoming), Nebraska (Nov. 23) and Kent State (Sept. 21). Purdue, Illinois, UCF and Eastern Michigan also will visit Beaver Stadium this fall.

For information on joining the Nittany Lion Club and purchasing season tickets, as well as club seating in Beaver Stadium, fans can visit www.GoPSUsports.com or call 1-800-NITTANY weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
