Terndrup accepts position at Ohio State

Dr. Thomas Terndrup, distinguished professor, associate dean for clinical research, and chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine, has accepted the position of chair of Emergency Medicine at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Ohio State University College of Medicine, effective July 1.

Terndrup, a Penn State College of Medicine alumnus, has more than 30 years of clinical, educational and research experience in the provision of emergency medical care, in settings ranging from remote rural to suburban community and large urban academic hospitals.

Since being recruited back to Penn State Hershey in October 2006, Terndrup has led his department to success and growth in all of the mission areas which includes the redesign and expansion of the Emergency Department, a significant increase in patient satisfaction scores, and dramatic decreases in wait times and in the number of patients leaving without treatment. In addition, Terndrup has overseen participation in numerous research projects and clinical trials and has made Penn State Hershey a leader in the area of emergency preparedness. Under his leadership, the department also has seen tremendous growth in its educational programs.

At Ohio State, Terndrup will become only the second permanent chair of that institution’s Department of Emergency Medicine, which is one of the oldest academic departments of emergency medicine in the country.
