Events put spotlight on tai chi

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Multiple events are scheduled at Penn State in conjunction with World Tai Chi Day on Saturday, April 27.

Dong Wu, associate professor and vice director of Chinese at the Martial Arts College of Beijing Sports University, will give a lecture, titled "The Myth of Taiji (Tai Chi)," from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in the Cybertorium of IST Building.

Grand Master Dong Wu has coached Chinese martial arts for more than 20 years and given workshops throughout the world.

The program is sponsored by the Penn State Taiji Club, the Confucian Institute of Penn State and the History of the Chinese Martial Arts class in the Asian Studies Department.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 26, the Taiji and Advanced Technology for Smart Health Symposium will be held in 333 IST Building. The event is sponsored by the Confucian Institute, and the Department of Computer Sciences and Engineering.

From 1 to 5:30 p.m. April 27, a World Tai Chi Day celebration and demonstrations will be held on the Old Main Patio. That event is sponsored by the Taiji Club, Confucian Institute and classes in the Penn State Kinesiology Department.
