Databases offer clinical reference tools for physicians, nurses

DynaMed, Nursing Reference Center databases now accessible

DynaMed database, a clinical reference tool for physicians, and Nursing Reference Center, a rich resource for nursing professionals, can now be accessed by all Penn Staters with an access id thanks to the University Libraries' collaborative purchases with the Harrell Library at Hershey. The databases can be accessed at http://www.libraries.psu.edu/psul/databases.html and selecting each by name.

Both databases offer evidence-based resources for use at the point-of-care. DynaMed is a tool created by physicians for physicians and other health care professionals. With clinically organized summaries for more than 3,200 topics, it provides the latest content and resources with validity, relevance and convenience, making it an indispensable resource for answering most clinical questions during practice.Updated daily, DynaMed editors monitor the content of more than 500 medical journals on a daily basis. Each article is evaluated for clinical relevance and scientific validity. The new evidence is then integrated with existing content and overall conclusions are changed as appropriate to create a synthesis of the best available evidence.

Nursing Reference Center also offers point-of-care material, quick access to nursing literature and patient education handouts, and practice and skill documents to improve nursing skills. Plus it includes a module exam for obtaining continuing education units.
