Creative Writers Reading Series bringing novelist Diana Abu-Jaber to campus

Talk set for April 25

Jordanian-American writer Diana Abu-Jaber will close this season’s Creative Writers Reading Series at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

Abu-Jaber is the author of a memoir, “The Language of Baklava,” and the novels “Birds of Paradise” and “Crescent,” which won the 2004 PEN Center USA Award for Literary Fiction and the Before Columbus Foundation’s American Book Award. “Crescent” also was named one of the 20 best novels of 2003 by The Christian Science Monitor. 

Abu-Jaber’s first novel, “Arabian Jazz,” won the 1994 Oregon Book Award and was nominated for a PEN/Faulkner Award.

Abu-Jaber’s reading takes place at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in Penn State Behrend’s Larry and Kathryn Smith Chapel. A reception for her will be held at 5:30 p.m.; both events are free and open to the public, and free parking will be available in the Junker Center lot.
