Behrend students hosting inaugural Relay For Life event this weekend

Five student groups at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, have organized the college’s first Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society (ACS). The event in Junker Center begins with a Survivor’s Lap at 5 p.m. Friday, April 5, and ends with a closing ceremony at 7:30 Saturday morning.

The overnight fundraising walk and celebration of cancer survivors also functions as a carnival, camp-out, cornhole competition, luminaria ceremony, water pong tournament, concert with Erie pop band The Romantic Era, Zumba class and stand-up comedy show featuring Jim Kurre, an associate professor of economics, and the In All Seriousness improv troupe. About 200 students are expected to participate.

The student organizations staffing the Relay for Life planning committee are Reality Check, Joys of Nursing, Lion Ambassadors, Student Government Association and the Kappa Delta Rho social fraternity.

Donations to the ACS can be made at the Junker Center during the Relay or online at
