UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Riding a five-game winning streak, Penn State has risen in both national rankings, checking in at 13th in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll by the coaches and 12th in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse poll by the media.
The Nittany Lions (7-3, 2-0 CAA) rattled off their second top 10 win of the year on Tuesday (March 26), downing then-No. 7 Bucknell, 11-3, in Lewisburg. Penn State backed that victory with a hard-fought 7-6 win against Villanova, a team that has six losses, all to ranked teams, by four or less goals.
Penn State has slowly crept up the polls since dropping three straight games to ranked teams (No. 5 Notre Dame, No. 15 Ohio State and No. 19 Lehigh). Penn State was last ranked 13th by the USILA and 12th by the media on March 3.
The Nittany Lions welcome another ranked foe to Happy Valley in the form of the Drexel Dragons, 12th in the USILA and 14th in the media poll. The Dragons (8-2, 3-0 CAA) downed Saint Joseph's, 16-3, on Wednesday before edging Delaware 11-10 on Saturday. Both games were at home. Drexel CAA at 3-0, while Penn State and Towson sit a half-game back at 2-0. Game time for Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
Saturday's game against Drexel will be Penn State's 100th Season Celebration. Alumni are invited back to participate in the celebration and will be honored at halftime of the game.
