Courses offered in shale development, hazard recognition and first aid

Registration is open for courses to be offered this spring by the Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education.

A Shale Exploration, Development & Production Overview course will be held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, April 6, and Thursday, May 16, in Room 15, Student Union Building. The course includes information on shale economics, geology, leasing, drilling practices, well construction, reservoir stimulation, well completion, production and the workforce needed at all experience levels.

The Hazard Recognition Plus course from Decision Point Associates will be held 8 a.m. to noon, Friday, April 19, in Room 15, Student Union Building. This is a worker-oriented hazard recognition thought process that can be applied in any workplace. The course goal is to assist individuals in preventing incidents by educating and coaching them on how to accurately recognize and manage hazards when planning, evaluating and conducting jobs. The HRP Process is built on extensive research and used by more than a dozen multi-national companies in 16 countries. An American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED instruction course that meets Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements will be offered from 1 to 5 p.m. that day in the same room.
