The Spirit of Internationalization Award was recently presented to six women within the Penn State and Centre County communities by the University Office of Global Programs (UOGP). Among the recipients was Gina Jones, instructor at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus.
The award celebrates women with international interests who have shown extraordinary strength of character and commitment to the cause of internationalization and women's empowerment. A ceremony was held on March 12, in the ballroom of The Nittany Lion Inn at Penn State's University Park campus. The awards coincide with International Women’s Day, which is celebrated worldwide to bring attention to global women’s issues.
Jones was chosen for the award for her efforts as coordinator of the Center for Experiential and Developmental Education and also as an instructor in the human development and family studies program on campus. Jones is also co-chair of MyOWN Campaign, a grant-funded project run by the Pennsylvania Business and Professional Women Foundation (BPW) that advocates opportunity for equal pay.
“It is truly an honor to receive this award,” said Jones. “The work of MyOWN Campaign and BPW must continue until a change is made.”
On Tuesday, April 9, MyOWN will host its second Equal Pay Day rally, which will begin at noon on the steps of the Fayette County Courthouse in Uniontown, Pa.
