Alumni, students to meet legislators and rally at April 9 Capital Day

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State alumni and students will gather for Penn State Capital Day on April 9 in Harrisburg, Pa., to make their case with legislators that supporting the University helps Penn State students across the state and translates to a healthier commonwealth.

Teams of alumni and students will meet with state senators, representatives and legislative staffers to emphasize that a healthy state appropriation helps Penn State:

-- provide an affordable, accessible education at all Penn State locations across the state

-- keep its educational programs strong and suited to the needs of its students, the commonwealth and the nation

-- preserve the substantial “tuition discount” for Pennsylvania resident students

-- keep tuition increases as low as possible

In addition to individual meetings, Capital Day also will include a 1 p.m. Rally in the Rotunda to demonstrate support for Penn State, its positive impact on Pennsylvania’s economy and its vital role in training future leaders. Following the rally, Berkey Creamery ice cream will be served to all participants.

Capital Day is organized by the Penn State Alumni Association’s Grassroots Network, an education and advocacy group supporting Penn State; the Council of Commonwealth Student Governments (CCSG), which represents Penn State students at 19 undergraduate campuses beyond University Park; the University Park Undergraduate Association; and the Graduate Student Association.

All Penn State alumni, students and friends are welcome and encouraged to participate. For more information or to register, visit www.alumni.psu.edu/grassroots/events. The deadline for registration is Tuesday, March 26.
