Harrisburg program helps high school students plan STEM careers

An estimated 120 ninth graders from six area schools will receive an in-depth look at careers related to math and science when Penn State Harrisburg hosts its annual Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Career Launch on Wednesday, March 6.

At the event, students meet with Penn State Harrisburg faculty and staff and community professionals who conduct interactive, hands-on sessions to give a personalized approach to STEM fields. The program provides students with an understanding of the course work and requirements necessary to pursue higher education in mathematics and science-related areas.

This year, students from Harrisburg, SciTech, Steelton-Highspire, Central Dauphin East, Susquehanna Township, and Middletown Area high schools have been invited to attend the Career Launch.

The Penn State Harrisburg Office of Multicultural Recruitment and Community Affairs sponsors and coordinates the Career Launch and other STEM programs. For information, call 717-948-6297.
