The 57th session of the Commission on the Status of Women will take place from March 4 to 15 at United Nations Headquarters in New York. In conjunction with the events focused on this year's conference theme, “The elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls,” Penn State’s International Center for the Study of Terrorism (ICST) is co-sponsoring a discussion on the growing trend of female suicide bombers with UAEZE Consulting. The event, titled “The Allure of Female Suicide Bombers,” will take place from noon to 2 p.m. March 8, at 866 United Nations Plaza, Suite 120.
ICST Fellow Mia Bloom, associate professor of international studies, will present the findings from her recent book, “Bombshell: Women and Terror.” In addition to Bloom, analysts Farhana Qazi-Ali and Rosemarie Skaine will discuss their work on women and global terrorism. U.N. representatives will also participate in the interactive dialogue.
The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required. To register, email email@example.com.
