Chuck Carson Named Alumni Fellow

Dr. Charles G. Carson III, president of the Penn State New Kensington Advisory Board, has been named a 2002 Alumni Fellow, the most prestigious award given by the Penn State Alumni Association. Since 1973, the Alumni Fellow Award has been given to select alumni who, as leaders in their professional fields, are nominated by an academic college and accept an invitation from the President of the University to return to campus to share their expertise with students, faculty and administrators. The award is a cast bronze medallion and framed certificate. Dr. Carson is vice president of environmental affairs for U.S. Steel. He received his doctoral degree in metallurgy from Penn State in 1970. He is active in environmentally concerned organizations and he has received several awards from the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences including the Alumni Achievement Award in 1994, Centennial Fellow in 1996 and the McFarland Award for Excellence in Metallurgy in 1999.
