Penn State Announces 2002-2003 Distinguished Speakers Series

The 2002-2003 Distinguished Speakers Series (DSS) brings to University Park five internationally known figures, including a former South African president, the highest-ranking firefighter to survive the World Trade Center collapse and an influential filmmaker. The Distinguished Speakers Series is sponsored by the University Park Allocation Committee and coordinated by the Distinguished Speakers Series Committee and the office of Student Activities. Each year, the DSS Committee invites the Penn State community to a brainstorming session where community members have the opportunity to suggest potential speakers and voice concern over others. Close to 100 people attended this year's brainstorming session. For a list of the 2002-2003 DSS speakers, visit
