Golf Team Qualifies for State Championship

For the first time since 1979, the Penn State New Kensington coed golf team will play for the Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association (PCAA) state championship Oct. 14-15, at the Blue Course at University Park. Freshman Mark Ficco, sophomore Rob McCowan, and freshman Jon Sirois, were among the top 24 qualifiers at the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (WPCC) championship, held on Oct. 8 at the Latrobe Elks Golf Club, and earned the right to represent PSNK in the individual and team competitions next week. Ficco, the teams number one player, shot an 81 and earned All-Conference honors. McCowan carded a 90, Sirois a 92, and freshman Jen Lash a 105, to lead the Lions to a fifth place finish in the 10-team tournament qualifier, the highest finish for PSNK since golf returned as a varsity sport in 1999. Lash is the first women to compete for the Lions and she is the only female in the WPCC. The team will also be competing in the Commonwealth Campus Athletic Conference (CCAC) state championship next week at University Park. Individuals and teams of the campuses in the Commonwealth College are eligible for the CCAC Open. For the full story, visit http://www.nk.psu.edu/news/current/current224.html
