Wayne Shorter Quartet Brings First-Rate Jazz to Penn State

Wayne Shorter, one of the most heralded musicians and composers in jazz, perfoms with his acoustic quartet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at Eisenhower Auditorium. Shorter, a soprano and tenor saxophonist who made a name for himself in 1960s stints with the bands of Art Blakey and Miles Davis, spent the 1970s and 1980s popularizing jazz fusion as co-founder of Weather Report. Now playing in a new acoustic quartet featuring drummer Brian Blade, bassist John Patitucci and pianist Danilo Perez, Shorter has a new sense of focus and excitement.
