'We Won't Stop Here' is Theme for 2003 MLK, Jr. Commemoration

A lone boy stands silhouetted against the dawning sky, looking up to a tree atop the hill that he is halfway done climbing. Symbolically, the tree is a future in which prejudices will not cause such suffering as is so often the case today, and the boy is the civil rights movement that has brought great change in seeking that goal, but which cannot rest on its laurels. This image, and the philosophy behind it, bolster the recent choice of "We Won't Stop Here" as the theme for many of the events tied into the 2003 Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration at Penn State's University Park campus next January. Created by undergraduate graphic design and photography student Roman Shuman, of Canton, the image of the boy on the hillside will soon appear on posters, flyers, buttons and t-shirts promoting a week's worth of commemoration-related activities, Jan. 15-22.
