SIMULATION GIVES STUDENTS CAREER-BUILDING EXPERIENCE

Project management is one of today's hottest careers, according to figures presented by the rapidly growing Project Management Institute. Previously a skill that most employees gained as they stumbled through expensive mistakes on the job, undergraduate and graduate students now are mastering project management in the classroom. A new Web-based project management simulation software program developed by School of Business faculty Jeff Pinto and Diane Parente at Penn State Erie and presented at the recent Decision Sciences Institute Meeting in San Diego, California is making the project management classroom experience more significant than ever before. Parente and Pinto, the Breene Professor of Management at Penn State Erie, have been collaborating on the simulation for nearly two years in preparation for a launch by publisher McGraw Hill in May 2003.
