Heard on Campus: Faculty Member/Astronaut on Risks of Space Travel

"Flying in space is a risky business. We attempt to understand the risks and to mitigate them as best as we can. Ultimately, it is the personal choice of each astronaut to decide whether or not they find the risks to be acceptable."
-- James Pawelczyk, assistant professor of physiology and kinesiology at Penn State and a former space shuttle astronaut, from his talk on "What Price a Martian? Human Limits to Exploring the Red Planet" for the Penn State Lectures on the Frontiers of Science on Saturday, Feb. 15.
